Troubleshooting CAROL Bike 1.0 Wi‑Fi & Internet Connection
This article explains common causes and step‑by‑step troubleshooting for connecting a CAROL Bike 1.0 to Wi‑Fi and the internet, and provides alternative connection options when the bike cannot join a home network.
If your CAROL Bike 1.0 shows your Wi-Fi network as Saved or Secured, but does not show as Connected, it usually means the bike has stored the network details but has not been able to complete the connection.
This can happen if:
-
The Wi-Fi details are incorrect
-
The router is using a setting the bike cannot connect to reliably
-
The bike is trying to connect to a combined 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network
CAROL Bike 1st generation connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks only. If your router uses one combined network name for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, the bike may not always be able to connect correctly.
Step 1: Forget the saved Wi-Fi network
First, remove any saved Wi-Fi details from the bike.
-
From the bike login screen, tap the settings/sprocket icon in the top-right corner.
-
Tap Connect Wi-Fi.
-
Scroll down and open Saved Networks.
-
Select each saved network.
-
Tap Forget.
-
Return to the Wi-Fi networks list.
This clears the previous connection attempt so the network can be added again from the beginning.
Step 2: Re-add your Wi-Fi network manually
After forgetting the saved network, add your Wi-Fi details manually.
-
From the Wi-Fi networks list, scroll down and tap Add network.
-
Enter your Wi-Fi network name exactly as it appears on your router. The network name is case-sensitive, so capital letters, spaces, and symbols must match exactly.
-
Set Security to WPA/WPA2 PSK.
-
Enter your Wi-Fi password.
-
Tap Save on the on-screen keyboard.
After saving, the bike should attempt to connect to the network.
Step 3: Toggle Wi-Fi off and back on
If the bike still shows the network as Saved or Secured, but does not connect:
-
Toggle WLAN off using the switch in the top-right corner.
-
Wait a few seconds.
-
Toggle WLAN back on.
The bike should then try to connect again using the details you entered.
Step 4: Check that the bike is connecting to a 2.4 GHz network
CAROL Bike 1st generation is compatible with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only.
Many modern routers use one combined network name for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. This can sometimes prevent the bike from connecting reliably. If your router has combined 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one Wi-Fi name, please try one of the options below.
Option 1: Split your router into separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks
If possible, configure your router so the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands have separate network names.
For example:
-
HomeWiFi_2.4G
-
HomeWiFi_5G
Then connect the CAROL Bike to the 2.4 GHz network.
This is usually the most reliable option for CAROL Bike 1st generation.
Option 2: Use a guest network
If your router allows guest networks, you can create a separate guest Wi-Fi network for the bike.
When setting this up:
-
Use the 2.4 GHz band if your router gives you the option.
-
Use WPA/WPA2 PSK security.
-
Avoid special characters in the network name if possible.
-
Keep the network name and password simple enough to enter accurately on the bike.
Once the guest network is created, connect the bike to that network.
Option 3: Use a Wi-Fi extender
You can also use a Wi-Fi extender as a dedicated access point for the CAROL Bike.
When configuring the extender:
-
Set it to broadcast a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
-
Use WPA/WPA2 PSK security.
-
Give the extender network a clear, separate name.
-
Connect the bike to the extender’s network.
This can help if the router is too far from the bike or if the main router uses combined 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz settings.
Option 4: Test with a mobile hotspot
A mobile hotspot can help confirm whether the issue is with the home router settings.
To test this:
-
Create a hotspot on your phone.
-
Connect the CAROL Bike to the hotspot.
-
Check whether the bike connects successfully.
❗For iPhone hotspots, please enable Maximise Compatibility before connecting the bike.
If the bike connects to the hotspot but not to your home Wi-Fi, the home router settings are likely preventing the connection.
Troubleshooting checklist
Please check the following:
-
The bike is connecting to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
-
Any previously saved networks have been forgotten on the bike.
-
The Wi-Fi network name has been entered exactly, including capital letters, spaces, and symbols.
-
The Wi-Fi password has been entered correctly.
-
Security is set to WPA/WPA2 PSK.
-
WLAN has been toggled off and back on after saving the network details.
-
A guest network, Wi-Fi extender, or mobile hotspot has been tested if the main network still does not connect.
Still having trouble?
If the bike still shows the network as Saved or Secured, but not Connected, please contact CAROL Support and let us know:
-
Your bike serial number.
-
Whether you are using CAROL Bike 1st generation or CAROL Bike 2.0.
-
The router brand and model, if known.
-
Whether your Wi-Fi uses separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks or one combined network name.
-
Whether the bike connects successfully to a mobile hotspot.
This information will help us identify whether the issue is related to the bike settings, the router configuration, or the Wi-Fi network itself.
